Subject: to any doubters out there - yes you can play out with a Deluxe Reverb

Played out tonight with 4 piece pickup band.
Drummer, Bass, Lead and I played rhythm and some fill in riffs
to keep the lead player on his toes. heh.

But the drummer played great and not super banging loud
and my Fender Deluxe reverb (silverface) which I replaced
the original fizzy Jensen with Eminence Texas Heat was easily
loud enough to do all the rhythm work. And the few lead riffs
easily cut through (I kick on TS9 for this).

It seems the Texas Heat speaker really suits this amp because
it retains the Jensen tones just beefier sounding. And it increases
the volume a lot. I can crank it all the way up and the speaker
holds together and just lets the 6V6's cream out. I really didn't
need to turn up the DR much past 6 on the volume. My DR actually
gets the volume up rather quickly and after 5 it just starts saturation.

Anyways, some people out there might sneer at this little amp
(I have other heads/cabs to use) but I just wanted to take it out
for a spin with the replacement speaker. And it really can gig out
for small practices and small band settings. more than enough volume.
I find that the efficient ceramic speaker actually is the thing to
use with this Deluxe Reverb. I know tone sniffers out there might
say that only an alnico speaker is the thing to use in a classic amp
but I'm not buying into this. The DR and the Texas heat are a perfect
match for playing live with this amp.

Ok. just wanted to mention this. At first I thought "what have I done!?"
but the 'beefier' meaty sounding tones from the Texas Heat speaker sat
perfectly in the mix and also could cut through when the TS9 was used.
So if anyone out there ever wants to replace that tired sounding Jensen
in their Deluxe reverb - go for the Eminence Texas Heat. It compliments
the blackface/silverface circuit perfectly. The DR doesn't have any mid
controls and sounds kinda scooped without it but the texas heat adds
back in some nice mids and just makes it all sound gig perfect.

I'm not sure if I'll make a habit of using it playing out but at least I know
that it can be used for band practices and any small clubs or parties, etc.
And seriously - this is my favorite all around sounding amp no matter
what the wattage. I'm happy to have a little 22 watt that can come out
of the house to play now. One of the best sounding amps I have ever heard.
A little touch of reverb and I'm in tone heaven playing this.
Could have played all night. But we played about 3 hours and everyone
liked the sounds coming out of the 'little twin' (that's what they called it). heh

ok. just had to say it. I'm still fired up about tonight.
Usually I take the Mesa or the Frenzel (60 watt or 40 watt 6L6 amps)
and 2x10 cab. But the Fender DR held its own and sounded better.

and you know what else - when I sound good I can then play a lot more
comfortably and easily. i didn't even have to touch the amp all night
except for one time just to turn down the treble a little and ease off
the reverb. After that didn't need to tweak anything all night.
