Well, I'm glad to hear that. My participation in this thread has been a
reaction against musical arrogance and bigotry. My point hasn't been to
try to convince anybody to like or dislike anything.
On the other hand, I always wish other people could get some of the
same delight out of the music I like that I do. In this case, regarding
Zappa's music, many of my favorites of his music are from the mid-'70s,
and involved the band that included George Duke (keyboards), Chester
Thompson (drums), Tom Fowler (bass) and Ruth Underwood (tuned and other
percussion). I especially love the albums "Roxy and Elsewhere",
"Overnight Sensation" and "One Size Fits All". They made an incredible
progressive rock/fusion noise with great quirky melodies, intricate
arrangements and tight ensemble playing. The satiric vocals and lyrics
took a back seat to the music, though still prominent. If you can,
check out those albums (also "You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol.
2 - The Helsinki Concert,") And check out these youtube clips:

This is only a sample of one phase of his long career, but its one I
love. It's just a great band playing memorable tunes, led and composed
by Frank Zappa.
